Miami Grand Prix – Recap

Pre Race

Welcome to… MIAMI!

From one street circuit to another. After having raced in Baku, Kevin Magnussen and the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team has arrived in Miami for the fifth round of the 2023 Formula 1 World Championship.

Last year, the race for points was there for K-Mag, but the Dane was hit after a restart and struggled with a damaged front wing. This weekend, we’re sure that Kevin is back to finish the job in Miami – let’s cross our fingers for points on Sunday!

“The Miami Grand Prix is one of these new races in the US that kind of feels like a new type of Formula 1 event, where it’s taken to the next level. It’s also one of the races where we really want to do well in front of our home crowd. It’s the closest I get to a home race in a way because there isn’t a Danish Grand Prix and the closest I get is the team’s home race. It’s not the most physical track in terms of the layout, but it is tough and with the warm weather on top, it’s massive. It’s a tricky place to put a Formula 1 track, but they’ve managed to make something that’s fun,” says Kevin.

FUN FACTS: It’s the second race in Miami since the south Florida city debuted on the Formula 1 one calendar last year. The 5.4-kilometer-long track takes the drivers through 19 corners, three straights and three DRS Zones with an estimated top speed of 320 kilometers per hour…

The first of the weekend’s three practice sessions will begin on Friday, followed by qualifying on Saturday. Sunday’s 57-lap-long Miami Grand Prix begins at 15:30 local time (GMT -4).

Day #2

Update from the Miami Grand Prix, where Kevin Magnussen will start his MoneyGram Haas F1 Team VF-23 #20 from a solid P4 in today’s race after an incredible job in the qualifying yesterday.

“I’m well chuffed with that! In the US, at the Miami Grand Prix, in front of our home crowd and title sponsor and other partners – it’s great to be able to get a result like that. Of course, there’s no points for qualifying – we know that – but we also know what it feels like to have a good qualifying,” said K-Mag.

Green flag at 15:30 local time (GMT-4).

Day #3

Point secured on home soil!

Strong weekend for the Admin By Request-sponsored Kevin Magnussen who secured one championship point on the team’s home soil in Miami!

During the race, K-Mag had a thrilling battle with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who eventually passed the Dane after several laps. Nevertheless, the Miami weekend showed us that the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team machine has the power and pace to perform in the upper half of the field.

“I was dreaming of a little more than one point but still, it’s what we came here to do – to get points and finish in the top 10. I don’t think it was an easy race to get points in because all the big teams finished up there and P10 is more or less the best we could’ve hoped for in terms of the pace we had. I think the pace was good, but we had a little bit more degradation than the rest of the field. It was a strong weekend, bringing something good to the car and getting a point at home,” Kevin Magnussen said.

Round six of the 2023 Formula 1 World Championship will take place on the 19-21 May at Imola, Italy.
