Day 1
AUSTRALIA
Kevin Magnussen and the rest of the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team has gone down under for the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne this weekend. Yes, it’s the circuit where K-Mag secured a podium in his very first Formula 1 race 10 years ago – and it’s also one of the Dane’s favorite races on the 2024 calendar.
“It’s always special coming back to Melbourne, I’ve got special memories from there from my first race in Formula 1. Coming back, you always have in your mind that it was the first race of the year for so many years, and that’s a special feeling. It’s a cool track as well, it’s still a very high-speed track, and it’s become more so with the changes recently but there are some slow-speed corners as well so I’m looking forward to seeing how we go there,” said Kevin Magnussen.
The MoneyGram Haas F1 Team headed to Australia in sixth position in the Constructors’ Championship and optimism is evident after Friday’s two practice sessions.
“We had two good free practice sessions today so I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do tomorrow. It’s a very tight field so we could be anywhere almost, certainly in the mix for P10 or P11. There’s some pace in there.”
DID YOU KNOW THAT … The first Formula 1 Grand Prix in Melbourne was hosted in 1996 on a new circuit using a mixture of the existing roads around the city’s Albert Park? There are not less than four DRS zones on the 5.3km long street circuit – with a 67 % safety car probability…
Day 2
START YOUR ENGINES, MATES
We’re so ready to rumble in Melbourne! Kevin Magnussen qualified P14 today at the Albert Park Circuit, and here’s a short pre-race update from the Danish Admin By Request powered Formula 1 driver.
“There were some good laps in qualifying today, so I think that’s about where we are with the car, in qualifying at least. P14, it’s still within reach of the top 10 and I think we just must have a clean race. Tyre degradation seemed okay, it’s whether our outright race pace is good enough, which is the bigger question. Hopefully we can tune it up for points as that’s what we’re here for,” said K-Mag.
Race Day
“Great teamwork once again” 🏁
Wow! Another strong weekend for MoneyGram Haas F1 Team. This time both K-Mag and The Hulk managed to finish in the points, which makes it the first double points weekend for the American team since 2022. Crossing the line on a P10, Kevin Magnussen scored his first point of the season!
“We got both cars in the points with great teamwork once again. The Virtual Safety Car didn’t help me, but on the flipside, it helped Nico so we could get him back into the battle and it’s fantastic to get three points here. It’s very encouraging and it’s a different way to go racing,” said K-Mag after the race at Albert Park.
“Last year we woke up on race day knowing it’s not going to be good. Today, I woke up knowing we would have a chance to fight, and it was true. We were stronger with our race pace than qualifying, and we just need to keep working in this direction.”
Well done, team! We can’t wait to see more action when the Japanese Grand Prix takes off at legendary Suzuka on April 7.
